During his time in college, Pastor Peter struggled with the questions of life and his purpose. It was when he studied the Gospel that he found his answers through Jesus Christ and quickly committed his life to the Lord. After graduating with his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering, he worked at Mitre Corporation, an engineering consulting firm in Boston. It was during this time he felt a calling towards full time ministry and entered Gordon-Conwell Seminary in 1989. While in seminary, Pastor Peter and his wife, Eunice SMN joined Pastor Paul and Becky JDSN (Berkland’s founders) at Berkland Baptist Church in Boston. Being attracted by the vision of a church as a living embodiment of Christ, Pastor Peter and Eunice SMN committed to serve at BBC. In 1992 he received his Masters in Divinity from Gordon Conwell. By this time, they had had their two children, Margaret and Jeremy. (Margaret attends MIT, while Jeremy attends Georgetown University.)

After several years of serving God through the college and young adult ministries, Pastor Peter was ordained in 1994 and started Berkland Baptist Church in Los Angeles. This move initiated a frequent set of moves where Pastor Peter and his family became quickly known as Berkland’s “globe-trotting” family having received the gifts of, packing, moving and most importantly, obeying God’s call. After starting BBC L.A., they moved several years later to lead our BBC New York church. Hearing a moving mission report about God’s work in Central Asia, the family obeyed God’s calling and started another Berkland Church in Almaty, Khazakstan. After becoming fluent in Russian, God called them to the capitol of the Russian-speaking world, Moscow, where they started another Berkland Church.

Then on September 11, 2001, the unspeakable happened. In the midst of this tragedy, God gave BBC the vision to start a church in DC as He showed us how He provides hope even in the midst of tragedy. Worthy Life Baptist Church was started to help with the healing of this country by raising Christian leaders in our nation’s capital. Once again, Pastor Peter and his family obeyed God’s calling to plant this church, especially as both had grown up in this region.

Speaking of which, Pastor Peter is only half of our beloved leaders. His capable and fun wife, Eunice SMN makes up the other integral half. While in high school, Eunice SMN committed her life to Christ after a bible study that presented the Gospel. She attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County and eventually moved to Boston where she met Pastor Peter.

Eunice SMN is an encouraging spiritual shepherd for the students and young adults under her care. She is always available to counsel, listen and to generally hang out with us. Most importantly, Eunice SMN always helps us by pointing us toward Christ. For us, Pastor Peter and Eunice SMN set the example of a partnership in Christ as they tirelessly serve God through Worthy Life Baptist Church.
